How would you best describe the work your organization does?
Fort Wayne Trails is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for, developing and enhancing the trail system in Allen County, Indiana. We focus on expanding trail access, improving user experience and ensuring the sustainability of the trail network through fundraising, community engagement and partnerships.
What audience does your organization commonly serve?
Everyone! We serve all of Allen County and thousands of visitors each year. Last year we had a record breaking year with over one million uses of the trail!
How would you describe your organization’s partnership with Indiana Michigan Power (I&M)?
Fort Wayne Trails has a strong partnership with I&M and the AEP Foundation, which has played a key role in supporting our organization's trail development and enhancement initiatives. So often we are able to partner after I&M completes transmission line projects and use the same path for a trail. This helps with costs as many times the temporary road meets or exceeds what is needed for the base of a trail.
This partnership enhances Fort Wayne Trails' ability to develop and maintain a high-quality, accessible trail network while advancing I&M’s goals for community investment and sustainability.
In what ways have you worked with I&M during this partnership?
The AEP Foundation, through its support of the Golden Spike Trail Hub, has been a valuable partner in advancing trail development projects throughout Allen County. The Golden Spike Trail Hub serves as a key resource for funding and supporting new trail connections, enhancing accessibility and connectivity for the community.
In addition to their financial and strategic support, they have also provided Fort Wayne Trails with opportunities to engage with community and business leaders by attending events together. These events have allowed us to network, strengthen relationships, and share more about our mission, further expanding awareness and support for trail development initiatives.
