Attendees packed into the now University of Saint Francis Performing Arts Center in downtown Fort Wayne, to hear Martin Luther King Jr. speak in June 1963. Now over sixty years later, many spend the third Monday in January reflecting on Dr. King's legacy and transformation leadership.
To honor Dr. King’s views of “togetherness,” several members of our team celebrated his bold work with the community at various events. In Fort Wayne, that included the 39th Annual Dr. King Unity Day Celebration, presented by the Martin Luther King Jr. Club, Inc. of Fort Wayne. This organization, which promotes and honors the legacy of Dr. King through community activism and youth engagement, hosted the celebration.
Additionally, downtown South Bend was the site of the 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast and Day of Celebration. This event is supported by the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation of St. Joseph County, Project Impact, South Bend Heritage and the Civil Rights Heritage Center. The thousand-plus attendees had the opportunity to participate in various workshops, a youth cultural program, which awarded 2024 youth community service awards and a traditional memorial march to the South Bend Century Center.
