I&M Fomenta la Educación y los Logros Académicos a Través de Subvenciones

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has worked alongside American Electric Power (AEP) to award over $43,000 in grants focused on promoting education and overall student achievement to teachers, schools and agencies serving school-aged children. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics grants are designed for teams of students who utilize brainstorming and teamwork to build robots for competitions at local, regional and international levels. Recipients of this grant include:

  • St. Joseph Public Schools, Team 3620 (Average Joes)

En Teacher Vision grants are designed with the goal to improve academic achievement, with a focus on science, mathematics, technology, electrical safety and the balanced study of energy and the environment. Educators receiving the Teacher Vision grant include:

Indiana

  • Kylee Redford, Blackford County Schools – Camp Invention (student scholarships to attend weeklong STEAM summer camp)
  • Daniel Walsh, Elkhart High School (provide students an opportunity to develop Scientific Method of Engineering Design skills at the 2023 Team America Rocketry Competition)
  • Kirin Kennedy, Leo United Methodist Preschool (offer the experience of coding and robotics in a developmentally appropriate manner)
  • Tracy Nicodemus, Lincoln Primary Center (introduce basic properties of electricity, including the fundamentals of circuitry and how circuits are used)
  • Traci Porter, Lincoln Trail Elementary (assist students in developing content area vocabulary and gain 21st century skills)
  • Lee Ann Tempel, Lincoln Trail Elementary (to practice, remediate and expand classroom curriculum in various subject matters)
  • Rhonda Huebner, Leo United Methodist Preschool (expose STEM curriculum through a hands-on approach)
  • Jason Emmons, Saint Thomas the Apostle School (educate students on new and different types of technology)

Michigan

  • Matthew Swier, Bloomingdale Middle and High School (provide updated equipment in woodshop program)
  • Joanna Alvey, Marcellus Elementary School (improve and support student independent writing and reading skills)
  • Abby Asmus, Marcellus Community School (work with the local FFA chapter to start a community garden)
  • Lynn Wagner, Marcellus High School (properly train students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • Megan Roth, Sylvester Elementary School (teach students about design process and building 21st century thinking skills)
  • Nick Payne, River Valley School District (student participation in Regional Science Olympiad Competition)
  • Nick Payne, River Valley School District (building supplies to teach STEM classes)
