Helping Our Neighbors: A Rake is All it Takes

19 de Noviembre de 2025

I&M employees recently helped Michigan customers and neighbors with fall clean-up as part of the United Way’s ‘Rake a Difference’ service event.

Volunteers from I&M's three service centers and the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant worked in teams across Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties. I&M employees removed leaves and various debris from 14 houses to help seniors and those who may be physically unable to rake or pay for similar services.

"It's important to do this for our neighbors because as leaves pile up and get scattered by the wind and become wet from the rain, it can create a safety risk," said Josh DeWulf, Distribution System supervisor in Three Rivers. "We can give customers peace of mind and help them avoid a significant injury. We look forward to this event each fall and enjoy supporting our community."

Despite the snow earlier in the week, the sun was shining as volunteers armed with rakes, leaf blowers, tarps and bags worked. The 15th annual Rake a Difference event helped more than 300 households across the three-county area.
