Who keeps the lights on when storms roll through or power goes out? Some local preschoolers recently got to meet them.
Two Elkhart lineworkers stopped by Crossroads Preschool to show children ages 1 to 5 the truck, tools and safety gear they use to help keep electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout the community.
The kids got an up-close look at hard hats, gloves and boots, but the clear favorite was the bucket truck. They eagerly took turns honking the horn and watching the crew raise a long fiberglass stick high into the air, explaining how it helps lineworkers safely reach equipment when repairing power lines.
Beyond the fun, the visit gave children a chance to learn about electrical safety and the people who work behind the scenes to keep the lights on for their families.
By the end of the visit, there were plenty of smiles and maybe even a few future lineworkers in the crowd.
