With simple steps, like those below, you can save energy - and possibly a little money - on your next bill.

• Rock around the holiday tree…on a timer. Control the time lights and put decorations in action each day by using a timer. Cutting down the hours these are on can lower energy use on your bill.
• Deck the halls with LED lights. Lasting 10 times longer than traditional bulbs, LED bulbs use just a fraction of the energy conventional bulbs use.
• Joy to the holiday baking. Coordinate baking times to include multiple dishes at once to reduce energy use from your oven. Remember to keep heat where it belongs; don’t open the oven door for any premature peaks.
• Oh, silent furnace. Planning holiday travel? Lower your thermostat to 55 degrees before you go. This will save energy and prevent water pipes from freezing. Hosting a holiday party instead? Ovens running and extra people around can raise the temperature in a home, so you can save by turning the heat down as guests arrive.
• Take advantage of an open fire – chestnuts optional. Lower your thermostat setting when using a fireplace, as it will provide heat for a space. Don’t forget to close the damper when the fire is out to prevent cool air leaks.
