El Programa de Michigan ayuda con el pago de ayudas para personas mayores

At Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), we aim to serve our communities and the customers who call it home. To do this, we provide resources that ensure our customers have the support they need throughout the year.

Sabemos que, a veces, surgen dificultades financieras, y las personas necesitan un poco de ayuda para pagar la factura. I&M offers several payment assistance options, as well as energy-saving tips to help customers make their homes efficient and safe in any season. This includes the Descuento para Ciudadanos de la Tercera Edad for our Michigan customers. 

I&M residential customers living in Michigan, age 65 or older, using less than 900 kilowatts (kWh) of energy each month can qualify for this payment assistance option. Through the program, customers can receive a 50% discount on their monthly service charge and a reduced rate on energy use under 900 kWh. This discount applies to the primary address only, excluding additional properties, with the primary accountholder fulfilling the requirements listed above. Customers must also remain in the program for at least 12 months. 

Payment assistance programs available to I&M customers vary by state in both Indiana y Michigan. The current programs were approved by either the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) or the Michigan Public Service commission (MPSC), making them available to qualifying customers.

Temperature and weather can quickly change from one month to the next. This results in changes to amount of energy used from month to month, which is reflected on an energy bill. Customers enrolled in the Senior Citizen Discount qualify by consistent energy use below 900 kWh each month; however, should a month exceed that limit, customers are billed to reflect that overage. This is demonstrated on the chart below. Even though you may use over 900 kWh a couple months, this payment assistance option may still offer a benefit over a 12-month period. 

I&M offers additional resources to help with energy-savings, including an Revisión de Energía en Línea. For immediate savings, I&M will send homeowners a free kit of energy-saving products upon survey completion. For income-qualified customers, a free Revisión de Energía en el Hogar can also identify ways to save. During this checkup, homeowners will walk through their home with an I&M energy expert to identify any existing concerns. They can also receive a free kit with energy-saving products.
